Through a generous grant CI is able to give student stipends to all enrolled students for college expenses - including books, tuition and fees, computers, software and travel.
To qualify, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 (C+) and agree to volunteer for ten documented hours of community giveback during the semester
CI students have the opportunity to volunteer in dozens of venues throughout the five boroughs or choose a venue of their own. Giveback provides students with valuable work experience, helps them build new relationships and, most importantly, serves as a living example of the many benefits of higher education during reentry.
During the Fall 2008 semester, giveback options include a student speakers bureau, peer tutoring, reentry research projects, and a host of other opportunities.
If you have received a stipend this semester, watch your e-mail inbox for updates from Robert Sims, Giveback Coordinator, rsims@collegeinitiative.org.
